Two Regina athletes had the chance to run the Abbott World Major that is the hardest to get entry to - the London marathon. Stephanie Leduc ran 3:55:10 to place 3075th in the W18-39 age division. Yvonne Cafik’s route was more complex. Last week, while running the 5k preceding the Boston marathon, Yvonne experienced numbness and pain in a pelvic injury which she had fractured 4 years ago. She rested all week, and actually finished the marathon in 6:56:05 (709th in W60), much slower than her usual BQ times. As a result, she continues her goal towards earning the Abbot six star medal (missing only Tokyo). Congratulations ladies!
Congratulations to our Regina runners who ran the Boston marathon today! Our fastest man, and best age group performer was Morgan Bradshaw, and our fastest woman was Gaylene Jeannot. Results were:
Morgan Bradshaw,2:46:07,212th M40
Gaylene Jeannot,3:50:32,688th W50
Liping Zheng,4:02:47,544th M55
Lana Thompson-van Eaton,4:12:02,389th W60
Congratulations runners!
Three of our Regina athletes just finished the oldest race in North America - Around the Bay in Hamilton. Peggy Junek ran 2:57:19 for 46th in W50; Patrice Krueger ran 3:10:48 for 22nd in W60; and Patti Sandison Cattell ran the 15 k (recovering from tendinitis) in 1:31:40 for 12th in W60. Weather was reported to be grim - chilly and rainy. Congratulations, you heroes!
Congrats to our four Regina runners who finished the Tokyo marathon. The day before the marathon, race organizers were warning about heat issues - the sun and humidity were real! Our guys suffered in the hot sun but finished well to each gain another star - the term used for completing each of the seven Abbott major marathons.
Michael Dahlman,3:49:12, 4 stars
Angela Arnold,4:28:58, 3 stars
Paula Bzdell,4:30:04, 4 stars
Cheerie Constantino,5:41:42, 2 stars
Age group placing cannot be found as of yet - we will add these when we get them. Congratulations to our local heroes!
Congrats to our three marathoners that took on European races in February. Conor Renouf ran 2:50:26 for 239th in M35 at the Seville marathon in Spain. This extends his streak of running a sub-three marathon each year to 18 years!
Meanwhile, Gay Renouf and Milos Kostic ran the Split marathon in Croatia. Gay ran 4:32:24 for 2nd in W65 and Milos ran 6:14:57 for 5th in M70+. Milos remains one of the few runners in mid-eighties that can run the 42 km.
Congratulations, runners!
Here’s a result that shows it’s not about time! Laura Sullivan ran the Disney marathon (in 4:55) but the Boston-qualifying athlete had goals that were not about running fast! Laura’s goals were to run in costume; to take as many photos with Disney characters as she could and to go on one of the rides during the race! She met all her goals - ran as Princess Jasmine; stopped for over 200 photos; and waited in line to do the Everest roller coaster. Congratulations Laura!
