Tim Schneider went Goofy at the Disney World Goofy Challenge. He completed the half marathon in 2:03:45 on Saturday and the marathon in 4:10:22 on Sunday.
Congrats to our Marathon Matters who ran the Phoenix marathon. Pat Kohli won the Womens 65 age group in 3:59:29, and Sean Reidy nabbed a 16 min PR (4:43:53 for 123rd in M50). All the more impressive when you hear that the temperature was 24 degrees at the finish.
Two other Reginans ran the half marathon: Christa Weber ran 2:03:05 for 188th in W25 and Doug Grimstad ran 2:07:46 for 146th in M55.

Jon Paradowski has done it again! Only two weeks after the ActifEpica, not even enough time to heal his blisters (!), Jon placed 2nd Man in the running division of Waskesiu's first Winter Ultra. His time was 7:20:38. Congrats, Jon!
Congrats to Mark Newton for his 5th age group place in Men's 30-39 in a time of 2:58:34.
Congrats to Steve Whelan for running one of the classic races - Around the Bay is the oldest race in North America! Steve ran the 30 km in 3:06:29 to nab 378th place in the Mens 40-44 division. Congrats, Steve!
Jon Paradowski accomplished something truly special with his 6th place finish at the Epica race. Jon teamed up on the run with Sue Lucas, the accomplished ultra runner from Winnipeg to finish the 130 km in 21 hours and 30 minutes. The distance and time are impressive, yes, but listen to these other challenges:
Runners had to carry their supplies (Jon's pack weighed 50 pounds!!)
The start of the race had a -43 windchill. The temperature didn't rise much over the course of the day.
Despite having his water pack and drinking tube double-insulated, the water froze. Jon reports he drank only at the aid stations, i.e., only 6 or 7 times.
Some of the course was on grid roads, but some was on the Trans Canada Trail, with snow drifts up to mid thigh.
Runners had to do some way-finding with cue sheets and incomplete directions. Jon and Sue ran an extra 12 km after getting lost.
Congratulations Jon, the club is so proud of you!
Jen Ruland finished her first 100 mile in style! She dived below the 24-hour mark with a 23:18:23 to garner the 6th place for women, and 2nd place for W30-39. This, despite unusually high heat for the race - Jen reported up to 30 degrees! Jen was helped by crew Leah White, who ran 55 km while pacing Jen.
Katherine Robinson ran in the 24 hour portion of the race, finishing as the 6th woman and completing an impressive 80.92 miles. Christian Riegel had hoped to run in the event, but was felled by food poisoning (reported by Jen) and still managed 28.56 miles to help Katherine in her race.
Congrats, all!
Milos Kostic toured southern Europe, taking in two marathons a week apart, and showing impressive consistency.

The race is subject to very restrictive cut-off times. This year, many pace bunnies (in Comrades parlance, "buses" didn't make those cut-offs. Our Regina runners were caught by these as well. These guys were the bravest of the group: Debbie running after missing 8 weeks of training to injury; Sean running with kidney stones and blood loss; and Mike with knee issues:
Debra Bellamy, 69 km
Sean Reidy, 58 km
Mike Renouf, 50 km
Jon Paradowski continued his max mileage ways by running the 100 km Blackfoot in a time of 11:52:53, good enough for 19th M. Congrats, Jon!

Congrats to all the runners doing the Chase the Goose! Special mentions should go to Chad Debert (3:42:53 for the marathon) and Tim Schneider (1:44:28 for the half) for their almost PRs in an almost race. Congrats also to Sean Reidy who ran the marathon dressed as a bunch of grapes! Here are the results:
Stacey Shand completed her second Badwater race - "the world's toughest footrace" - in a PR time! Stacey is a long-time Regina runner and triathlete who only recently moved to Kelowna, and included MM's Jon Paradowski as a pacer on her Badwater crew. Badwater runs from the lowest point in the lower 48 states - Badwater - to Whitney Portals - the gate to the highest point in the lower 48 states. It travels through Death Valley - the site of the highest recorded temperature in the western hemisphere. Runners talk about running on the white line to avoid having their running shoes melt. Stacey has told stories about sunburning the roof of her mouth, and being in temperatures so hot, it melted toenail polish! Over the 135 miles, and 14,600 foot elevation gain, Stacey ran 40:39:21, nabbing the 3rd place in the Women's 30-39 age category! Well done Stacey and crew!
Jen Ruland was also a Badwater pacer. In Jen's case, she was pacing Frank McKinney, who had to pull out owing to health reasons.
Congrats to Matt Ludlow, Q Johb and Kurt Matthewson, South Sask's soloists at the Canadian Death Race. Matt finished the gruelling 125 km Death Race, covering 3 mountain ranges and 17,000 feet of elevation gain, in a time of 22:26:40, good enough for 30th place in Men's 30-39! Q finished the 125 km in a time slightly over 24 hours, and Kurt finished three stages and 65 km in 11:10:55, but unfortunately didn't make the strict cutoff time.
Congrats to our Regina athletes who survived 60 km and climbing 2800 m in Kananaskis country. Adding to the challenge was the bitter wet weather that induced many runners to drop out from hypothermia. Our guys were tough and resilient!
Michael Harvey 9:38:54 10th M
Adriana Moryski 11:37:48 9th W
Lee-Ann Ricci 13:20:07 14th W
Here are the results of the Marathon Matters runners at the half marathon in Yorktown. I am pretty wowed - everyone placed in their age group! And Jon Paradowski was 5th overall.
Congrats to our MM runners and other Regina runners at the Edmonton marathon! Half marathon results for MM members only.
Congrats to all the runners who ran in our local "big" race. The weather was splendid, and Regina put on quite a show for any out-of-towners. Full results are on the RunQCM.com or Sportstat page.
However, I would like to recognize any of the runners who ran a PR - please contact Gay to add everyone I've missed
Our Regina runners were faced with incredibly brutal conditions in Lethbridge at the Lost Soul ultra. We had two runners who were just back from running in Death Valley, and even they proclaimed it to be very, very hard. We had 6 finishers out of 8, with Sean Reidy and Donn Lay putting in brave efforts at the 100k race, but unable to continue. Congrats to these earners of their Lost Soul "rock":
Congrats to Jan Steenkamp for his second marathon in a row, and to Tania Diener for her first half-marathon after recovering from a broken bone.
Jan Steenkamp, 4:42:27, 10th Men 50
Kendra Leboldus, 2:17:12, 42nd W35
Tania Diener, 2:52:15, 11th W50
The Lemming Loop is a timed run - either 24 hours, 12 hours, 6 hours, or 3 hours - the runner goes around and around a 3.3 km mostly single track trail, and tries to accumulate as much distance as he or she can. Regina runners rocked!
Congrats to all our ultra runners, particularly our new ultra-runner Carly Graham, who only did her first marathon less than a month ago. Special note to Aubrey Swift, in the 3 hour race, who made a new distance PR. And of course, Jon Paradowski, not for running 100 miles in under 24 hours, but for thinking of the other runners while he was doing it! Chris Riegel wrote: "I think we all already know what a great guy Jon is, but here's a story to add to the archive: around 4:30-5:00 am, we see Jon at the aid station and he asks us to warn the other Regina runners who were starting at 6 about the dangerous roots and rocks on the course. In the dark you couldn't see them, even with a headlamp, and lots of people were falling. Even in the midst of his own challenges, he was thinking of others."
Robert McLeod ran the Lindau marathon, passing through three countries in one race! His time of 3:26:24 placed him 8th in the Men's 55 division. Congrats, Rob!
Kelly Munce notched another country in his marathon tally at Munich - he ran 5:03:42 for 599th in the M50 age group. Two weeks later, he added ANOTHER country, finishing the Ljubljana half marathon in 2:20:15.
Congrats to our Regina runners running the "little apple" - a very fast course
Once again, Regina area runners excelled in the mountains. Here are the results that we know of - missed anyone, please email, thanks!
Milos Kostic has made it three age group wins for three tries in the World Majors so far. Stay tuned to see how he fares in the final three World Majors within the next year! Jan Steenkamp is on a roll with I-can't-count-all-the-races-in-a-row and Tania finishing a marathon after a short time of getting her leg/foot cast removed. Wow, we know some amazing folks!
Congrats to our Regina-area runners who ran in Victoria. Notably, Shari Mombourquette set a PR, and Gerry Nagy won his age group!
Congrats to our super tough ultra runners who took part in the Ironhorse ultra in St Paul, Alberta. Donn Lay finished his first 100 mile race (Trumpets, please!!) in 26:45, placing 8th. Matt Ludlow started the 100 mile, and dropped after 5 stages, finishing over 100 km in 18:57.
We had seven runners from Regina running in the biggest marathon on the continent, all posting great times. Here are their results:
Wow, does our club ever have great ultra-runners! Look at these results from the Tunnel Hill ultra in Illinois.
52 Regina runners ran in the Las Vegas half. Congratulations to all - here are the results from the MM members. I guess that means what happened in Vegas ended up on our website!
Steve Whelan, 2:30:28, 978th M40
Marsha Crossman, 3:08:12, 2275th W35
Jon Paradowski, 3:08:12, 1395th M35
Kathryn Rachar won her age group with 57.56 miles on the looped course! She reports that temperatures were in the 60's with wind 45 mph. Great job!
What a tremendous day when Regina runners showed incredible community spirit and generosity. Fifty plus runners came out to run 4 km laps around Wascana lake, donate to Mito Canada, and support each other. Runners had 17 hours to see how much distance they could accumulate, helped by the support of race director Marsha Crossman, great volunteers, and pizza! Here are the distances everyone ran (times excluded unless two runners ran the same distance) (Please email for corrections, thanks.)
One of the runners that participated right until the 11 pm cutoff was Andy Sward of Vancouver, who has an interesting story behind his participation. Andy has been RUNNING across the country, picking up bottles as he goes, and educating folks about their environmental footprint (see millionbottlepledge.blogspot.ca). He met Jon and Marsha earlier in the week, and the next day continued his westward running, making it to Caronport by Saturday. But he was so enthused about the 17 hour run that he hopped on the greyhound bus at Caronport, bused back to Regina, ran with the group until 11 pm, bused back to Caronport on Sunday, and only then continued his cross-country journey!
Congrats to our Regina runners who rounded up a new state at the Dallas marathon.
