Three Regina (or former Regina) athletes just completed the London marathon on Apr 22. Cari Bode ran 3:54:50 to place 369th in the W40 division; Debbie Bellamy ran 4:45:09 for 77th in the W60 division; and Jennifer Evancio ran 4:51:28 for 854th in W45. Conditions were tough - it was said to be the hottest London Marathon ever!
London is one of the 6 World Marathon majors - finishers earn a coveted six star medal. Other Marathon Matters members to have completed the World Majors sweep are Teresa Donley and Milos Kostic. Debbie has one more race to earn her six star and Cari and Jen have one or two more...
Congrats, runners!
Congrats to our Regina runners, especially Laurie Johnson for her age group placing and solid Boston qualifier! Gary Johnson also got an age group placing in the half-marathon.

Congrats to the runners from the Canadian Queen City who took on the hot and hilly Queen City of the US. The race was cheered by arguably the best spectators on the continent (Kelly got his cramping calves massaged by a pack of spectators who treated him like a race car in a pit stop and sent him out back on the race course!), and organizers sure have fun with the Pig theme. Runners line up in Pig Pens and run until they reach the Finish Swine. And the medal is the BEST!
Special congrats to Debbie Bellamy for her top ten finish in her age category!

Congrats to all the Regina area runners who completed the Calgary marathon, 50 km ultra or half-marathon. Results for the marathon and 50 km are below for Regina-area runners. Huge congrats to Neil Sharp, for his age group win - the best 2014 marathon time for Men 60-69 on the Prairies so far this year. It's also the 5th fastest in all of Canada - very significant considering that Neil is in the 65-69 rather than 60-64 category.
Also congrats to Jan Steenkamp and Tania Diener for finishing their second marathon in a week - Marathon Maniacs qualifier!

Kathryn Rachar was able to add another marathon in a new state to her tally. She had to wait in pouring rain for lightening to stop so that the organizers would start the race, and if you know Kathryn, you know she hates being cold! However, she persevered through shoe-sucking mud, and washed-away trail to complete 27 miles in order to claim marathon status.
This was a timed event in which runners tried to complete the furthest distance they could (or wanted!) in six hours. Thanks to Katherine Robinson and Christian Riegel for putting on this event - ten finishers of at least a marathon make it official for Marathon Maniacs and 50 States Clubs! Congrats to all the finishers!

Our mega-ultra runners, Christian Riegel and Katherine Robinson, have done it again...Katherine was third overall and Christian fourth overall, with both covering 77.95 miles. This was a 5 mile boost to each's previous longest distance, and an improvement of 90 minutes on each's 100 km split. Even more impressive when you hear that the race was hot, and that many runners suffered in the heat. Congrats, Christian and Katherine!

What a great day for a run in November - no snow, many smiles! Organizers Christian Riegel and Katherine Robinson put on a superlative event, and our volunteers rose to the challenge! Kelly Munce was devoted to the runners, doling out fortified fluids and puppy hugs. LeeAnn Ricci, Adriana Moryski, Marsha Crossman, Cari Bode, Jen Ruland, Aubrey Swift, and Enio Ricci froze themselves silly helping the runners.
Jon Paradowski ran in the 12 hour event, impressing us all with his determination. And even though Jen Ruland is listed in the 12 hour event, clearly she ran much faster - she waited to start later to give Jon some company. Congrats to:

Congrats to Regina runners, Matthew Macknak and Lisa Grieves for completing the Las Vegas marathon. Matt finished in 4:34:35 for 48th place in Mens 55, and Lisa finished in 5:36:02, good for 126th place in W45.
This may have been Marathon Matters' most successful race yet, with 15 runners, 2 top ten finishes, 10 Boston qualified times, and 7 PRs! Amazing, and well done everyone! All the runners were helped by the almost perfect weather conditions, and the second half that boasts a gradual downhill for 15 km. Nothing is free though, right?... We had to climb and descend 21 km of rolling hills in the first half. Here are the results:
Laverne Masur, 2:59:20, 41st M40-44 PR
Philippe Lacroix, 3:21:46, 27th M55-59 PR
