Gopher Attack 2023 - WHAT A DAY IT Will Be !

17 Years and Running


Gopher Attack is the earliest spring Boston Qualifier marathon in Canada with a flat and fast course. The marathon course winds through the scenic Wascana Park and the University of Regina campus. It is a 21.1 km loop certified by Athletics Canada. Participants who meet the Boston Marathon qualifying times will be eligible to enter the Boston Marathon in the following year. For 2023 there will be four distances - Marathon, Half-marathon, 10km and 5km. The start is in front of the Queen Building, 100 Navy Way, in Wascana Park, Regina, Saskatchewan. As well, for those that won't be able to make it on race day, there is a virtual event with four distances... registration for the virtual race gets you entered for all 4 distances....... run one or run them all. Virtual runners will have from

April 30 to May 31 to complete their distances.

Finishers will receive a unique medal... in-person participants will receive a set of Dolomite Stone logoed coasters and a discount voucher from Track & Trail... virtual participants will receive a medal and Track & Trail discount voucher.

Race start times: 8:00 Marathon & Half Marathon ///   8:30 :  10km and 5 km

Race Packet Pickup: Saturday, April 29, 1:00 -5:30pm. Location Queen Building, 100 Navy Way 

Those travelling who arrive race morning can pickup Sunday morning at 7am, but we recommend Saturday pickup where ever possible as race morning will be hectic! 

Virtual event participants will receive by mail. 

Marathon Matters club members receive $10 off!

The event is a fundraiser for the MS Society of Saskatchewan and hosted by Marathon Matters Running Club.

Parking

Parking is available in the Marina Parking lot, the Wascana Place parking lot and the small parking lot on the northeast edge of the lake.  These are shown on course maps.  The Queen Building parking lot will be reserved for volunteers to help minimize traffic near the race start/finish.

 

Courses

Course maps can be found on the Marathon Matters website.  All distances start and finish at the Queen Building, 100 Navy Way, Wascana Park.  The Marathon/Half Marathon course goes back to the route used prior to the detours required due to construction in the park. Marathon runners will complete the half marathon course twice and 10km runners will complete the 5km course twice.  Both the Marathon and 10km runners will cross the start/finish line at the end of the first loop and then complete their second loop.


Aid Stations

There will be three aid stations, with both water and Gatorade, location of which are marked on the course maps.  Marathon and Half Marathon runners will pass all three Aid Stations with the average distance between Aid Stations being +4.2 kms. 10km runners will pass Aid Station 1 as they start their second loop.

 

Aid Station 1 at the corner of Wascana Drive and Quinn Drive.

Aid Station 2 at the south end of the University. (…as in past years)

Aid Station 3 on Old Broad St between Wascana Drive and 23rd Avenue. 

 

Bathrooms

Start/Finish bathroom facilities are located inside the Queen Building.  There will be a porta-potty near both Aid Stations 1 and 2.

 

Race Results

Race results will be available at www.racepros.ca … unofficial results will be available seconds after crossing the finish line.
