Black Spur Ultra, Kimberley BC, Aug 25, 2018

posted Oct 21, 2018, 1:13 PM by Gay Renouf

A week ago, the town of Kimberley, BC was on evacuation notice to escape forest fires. Yesterday, our stalwart Regina trail runners handled the smoke and rugged trails to finish the Black Spur ultra. The Black Spur is one of the tougher ultras around, with 2230 and 4460 m of elevation gain and loss for the 54 and 108 km races respectively.

Our top finisher was Derek Anaquod who finished as the 16th M in the 108 km race in a time of 17:35:09. He was followed by Stephen Francis in 20:59:57 for 31st M.

In the 54 km race, our Regina area finishers were Wyatt Woycik in 9:02:46 (41st M); Quinton Johb in 9:56:32 (51st M); Shelley MacKenzie and Doug MacKenzie together in 10:32:11 (26th W; 55th M).

This third ultra in one summer makes Derek a finisher of the Sinister Triple - Sinister Seven 160 km, Death Race 125 km, and the Black Spur!

Congrats to all and triple congrats to Derek!
